What Is A Wisdom Tooth?

A wisdom tooth is a dental term for a tooth that is not fully grown. Development of wisdom teeth often happens around the age of 6 to 12, but can sometimes happen as early as 4 or 5 years old. Wisdom teeth can sometimes become impacted and need to be removed in order to avoid causing further damage or pain.

Removal of a wisdom tooth typically involves an oral surgeon making an opening in the gum tissue and removing the tooth through this opening. You can even search online for more information about Stress-Free Wisdom Tooth Extraction.

There are a few different ways to remove wisdom teeth:

1. Under general anesthesia with local anesthetics: This is the most common way to remove wisdom teeth. The dentist will make an incision in your lip and use a surgical instrument to remove the tooth from its socket. This is a very safe procedure and most patients feel little or no pain after it's done.

2. With local anesthetics only: Sometimes wisdom teeth can be removed without using any anesthesia at all. The dentist will make an incision in your lip and inject local anesthetic directly into the tooth socket. This allows him or her to easily remove the tooth without having to put you under for surgery.

3. With general anesthesia and a dental implant: Another option is to have general anesthesia while the dentist implants a dental implant into your jawbone above your wisdom tooth sockets. This allows you to wear a  dental implant that will hold the wisdom tooth in place while it's removed.
